HANG TOUGH
The New Kids on the Block at Time Warner Cable Arena
Hey, Jenn here. While everyone remembers “Hangin’ Tough” and “The Right Stuff” from NKOBT, nobody ever seems to remember my favorite song, which I am fairly convinced was called “Popsicle”. Lyrics were something like, “You’re my Popsicle, and everything you do makes me feel so free.” Don’t quote me on this. Anyway, I may attend this concert just to see if they play any song resembling this one that I seem to be the only person who remembers. Or to get Jordan Knight to sign my Jordan Knight Ken doll. Here’s hoping their group choreography has improved! Thursday, 8pm. Tickets available at www.ticketmaster.com.

GET SPOOKY WIT IT
CarnEVIL at Amos’ Southend
There are approximately 7.3 billion Halloween events going on in the Queen City this weekend. So many that you could conceivably just walk around in your costume all day for three days and everyone would just assume you are on your way to one of these events. We picked Carn-EVIL to feature here because 1) Ever since Jenn attended the Cleveland County Fair near Sarah’s hometown of Shelby and got talked into going into the tent which housed the five legged cow, she is officially terrified of carnivals. So she finds the title of this party to be particularly apt. 2) Proceeds from the event benefit DrumStrong and the Levine Children’s Hospital. We do wonder, however, if the altruism of going to an event that sponsors a children’s hospital is somewhat counter balanced by dressing like a 10-cent hussy, as is the female tradition on Halloween. I guess we shall see. 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday. 1423 S. Tryon St. $25 in advance, $35 at the door. www.amossouthend.com.

SEE A PORNO – SORT OF
Zack and Miri Make a Porno Opens on Friday, Oct 31
We’ve been a fan of Kevin Smith ever since Mallrats and Chasing Amy, and we are possibly ready to forgive him for Jersey Girl, but only if Zack and Miri can help us to forget. The cast should work in his favor – Elizabeth Banks is more omnipresent in Hollywood than Blair Waldorf’s headbands are on Gossip Girl (are you proud, Sarah? I made a GG reference and it wasn’t Gilmore Girls. I still don’t watch it though), and Seth Rogen should be well on his way to buying a house so large that they have to call it a “compound.” Together, can they make movie magic? Who knows? But it should be worth a few laughs (plus a few more adolescent giggles when you say the word “porno” out loud to buy your ticket).
